Don't you think it is Haram for Egyptians to make money off their ancient pagan history?

The Egyptian Government and the Egyptian economy as a whole makes billions off mummies, excavations, and general ancient egyptian history. If you think about it they are making money off the ancient worship of idols. I think this is completely wrong, but surprisingly others don't agree with me. How about you?

  1. It's Haram when Muslims do it and halal when non Muslims do it????????????????????
  2. Those pyramids are beautiful and egypt's history is amazing.
  3. GRAVE robbers not halaal.
  4. Mate: What has this to do with Islam? Its more an economical or cultural issue. I assume that is an Egypt section on Answers somewhere... Billions? seriously i doubt that! Purely Islamically speaking : there idols [i assume] are not longer worshipped or that they do not have any significant religious use in the present times. As we all know these are more of artifactss rather than exclusively idols as you have suggested. In the end it comes to this. As the heir of the ancient Egyptian civilisation, its up the the current egyptian people to use their historical treasures as they see fit!
  5. Its inevitable. The pyramids are a really big world land mark which many people die to see. So whether they support the tourism or not people will still come to see it either way. The thing is that if Egypt doesn't capitalize on the hotel businesses and such on it then some other country will, and its better for it to be in their hands then someone else's. Also, Egypt has many more problems then just making the pyramids a tourist attraction, and its not like they are telling people to worship ancient egyption gods.
  6. There are far more interesting things about egyptian history than simply the religious aspect of it. Look at the mathematics and science. Sorry, unless you're talking about selling merchandise that might constitute as an idol (like a small statue or necklace representing one of the deities), I don't see anything wrong with sharing history with the world. I doubt most of them are actually making money off of the ancient worship of idols. They're simply making money off of exploring and sharing the history of their country. And exploring and sharing in themselves do not represent an agreement of what went on, it's merely showing the facts and details.
  7. Hahahahahahahahahahhahaha ------------ Or are u being serious? Of course it's not haram. What's haram about visiting pyramids and temples? As long as u don't worship the same thing? Proof: You can visit churches and synagogues. And we make billions off mummies? Hahahaha, u know how much it costs to visit the Cairo museum? (which has a mummy room in it). It costs 1 (Only ONE) Egyptian pound. (0.178117 US$) per person Seriously, if we made billions, why is Egypt still so poor?
